Wondering How To Start
Manifesting Your Dream?
Try Merging and Surfing …

In the last issue we talked about looking for what lights you up and following what excites and enlivens you to find your path to your unique dream of wellbeing. So maybe now you’ve zeroed in on something you would love to do. Wondering how to get started? How you can begin to manifest it?

Look For Where You’re Already Being Led and Supported

Well, the EASIEST way to get yourself going is to catch a wave of energy that is already here supporting and motivating you. Then merge into that wave flow and ride it, very much like surfing an ocean wave. This is much easier than trying to create a wave of energy yourself. Let the Universe do it!

Wondering what the heck I’m talking about? I don’t blame you. :-) I’ll follow with a few examples of energy merging and surfing that might make it more clear on how to start manifesting your dream.

Merge and Surf Examples

Merging With Traffic

The other day I was driving along at a good clip in moderate traffic in the right hand lane of a 4-lane road. As I went through an intersection I noticed a car at a standstill on my right. The driver clearly wanted to merge into traffic. By the time I saw it, I was going too fast to slow down and let them in, without the driver behind me becoming discombobulated and possibly crashing into me.

I realized that if the car in the merge lane had been MOVING, even a little bit, it would have been much easier to slow up and let them in. Then the driver could have easily flowed into the already existing flow of traffic.

Dancing With The Flow

On Sundays I do contact improvisation dance with a group of friends. Sometimes I see a fellow dancer sitting on the sidelines with a “please dance with me” look. If I’ve been dancing and am already warmed up, there is an energetic gap between us that needs to be bridged by one or both of us before a dance can occur.

On the other hand, if they were MOVING, it would be effortless to flow with them and we could easily dance.

Likewise, when I’ve been the one sitting on the sidelines, I’ve noticed that it sometimes takes a lot of energy to overcome my shyness and initiate a dance with someone. On the other hand, if I just start moving, letting my body move in the way that it naturally enjoys moving, a dance spontaneously happens with one or more dancers. Like attracts like and flow attracts similar flows.

How to Start

Surfing Ocean Waves

When I was a teenager living in San Diego, I learned to surf. Nowhere near as extreme (or cool) as the guy in the picture, but I sure had fun! What I remember most was the FEELING of it.

I’d lay on the board and paddle out and wait for a wave. Then I’d turn myself and the board toward shore to align myself with the flow of the incoming wave. I’d paddle like crazy to try to match the speed of the wave.

When I was successful at synchronizing myself with the wave, it swooped me up and pulled me along. Then I’d stand up on the board and let the wave take me. It was one of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve ever had … What a ride!

So what the heck do these three stories have to do with how to start manifesting your dream? Bear with me; I’m getting there, I promise!

Identifying Your Dream

In Issue 001 we covered the first step in manifesting your dream: identifying what it is by looking for what brings you joyful anticipation and aliveness. What do you think about doing that brings a stream of excitement with it? Doing that very thing will open up a huge channel of wellbeing for you. The joy that you feel while contemplating doing it is just the tip of the joy iceberg.

Merging With The Flow

When you find the idea that lights you up that is a flow that is already in progress. The fact that it excites you and brings you aliveness in just thinking about it, means there is ALREADY juice flowing that can take you to the next step and the next, If you follow it.

So now you want to align yourself with the fulfillment of your dream, just as the surfer aligns with the wave and paddles to get up to speed with it. This step is really important because what we manifest in our life is always a match to what we predominantly FEEL. Align yourself with your dream by envisioning or imagining how it feels to have already accomplished it. You’re doing it and basking in the enjoyment of it. This builds the energy within you so that you can now attract more of that same energy, and therefore the fulfillment of the dream!

Then, as you continue to keep attention on your dream, feeling the joy of it, ask within to be shown what steps you can do NOW to make it happen. The Universe will answer, if you’re patient and watch for ideas that seem to come from nowhere. The ones you really want to focus on are the ideas that excite you the most. Those are the ones calling for your action now.

Take Action!

When you take steps to DO that thing that fills you with vitality now, then Life Force has something to support you with. But if you just feel the aliveness of the dream and sit still, there is no action for Life Force to join you in.

All sorts of things occur to help one, that would never otherwise have occurred, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. If your dream is to sail on your own sailboat, in order to get wind blowing through your sails (i.e., the support of Life Force), you first have to take the action steps to come up with a sailboat!

Because we manifest what we FEEL, frequently imagine how it feels to be sailing along, with the sun and wind on your face. Smell the sea. Notice how it feels to be pulled along by the wind currents. When the joy comes, indulge in it. Let it fill your whole being.

Then, in your day-to-day life, take an action that is line with your dream. Pick one that you look forward to doing. Rent a sailboat, or ask a friend to take you out on theirs. Research places to buy boats. Go look at them. Ask to go aboard and imagine yourself owning the boat you’re on. Touch it and feel it. Picture what you’d do with the boat and where you’d go. Write a description of the perfect sailboat for you.

Even if you think you don’t have the money, still go shop for one. Get involved in all things sailboat that you can. Google “sailboats” and see what piques your interest.

If your action feels like you’re forcing it, don’t’ do it. It may not be the right time to do that step. Look for the one that feels really good to you now. It is like the old Hansel and Gretel fairy tale and the bread crumbs they followed to get home. You can identify the next step (bread crumb) by looking for what excites you. Then focus on doing just that one thing. Then the next thing will light up.

Growing Pains

Even though an action step might enliven you, it may, and probably will, bring discomfort, because your dream will take you past your comfort zone to manifest it. (Which, I feel is why we have dreams. They expand us out into greater evolution.)

You may feel fear. That’s okay. Don’t let it stop you. If that action step excites and enlivens you, break it down into smaller parts that are more doable, and less scary for you right now. For instance, if buying a sailboat today terrifies you, it’s probably too big a step. Do more research to find out the boat options that you love the best so you’ll know more clearly what kind of boat you want.

The point is, the flow of what you want is already happening. You just have to find it by paying attention to what lights you up. Then merge with it, like merging with traffic when you’re getting

Once you tap into that flow, our merging-with-traffic metaphor doesn’t match anymore. You won’t be just another driver in a car on the freeway. You will do your dream YOUR unique way. As you keep saying YES! to the next action step, you will create your own unique masterpiece, whether it is your own sailboat, a painting, learning to sing, having a baby – you name it!

Surfing The Flow

Okay, you’ve taken an action step that merges you into the flow of what you want. Now to keep riding that wave, you just have to continue the process of taking action steps that bring you joy.

And just like ocean surfers, you may fall off the board from time to time and need to find an action step to merge back into the flow again. Every time you follow an action step that comes to you with feelings of openness and joy, your flow of wellbeing will open up even bigger and wider.

The key is to keep looking for an action step that you really want to do. You’re excited about doing it. You wake up in the morning eager to get at it. Then after you do that step, look for the next step that excites you in the same way.

Now the Universe is carrying you along. This is much easier than trying to forge your own path – or worse yet, doing nothing at all and feeling left out and unfulfilled.

Action Comes From Stillness

It isn’t necessary or productive to ALWAYS be in action toward your dream. Taking action is a part of the equation. Resting in stillness, meditation, envisioning and feeling play their important parts in manifesting your wellbeing dream also. Everything is born from stillness, including action. Following your Emotional Feedback Guide, you can tell when it is time to rest in stillness and when Life Force is urging you to move and take action.

Then that is the golden moment to hop on that wave and ride! I guarantee you, doing that will expand your world beyond anything you could ever have imagined.

I’m working on a webpage on How To Love Yourself that I’m very excited about. Self love is at the very core of wellbeing. Until you have self love inside, your energy is divided and self-sabotage is the result.

This page gives information on how you can become aware of areas where you are at odds with yourself. We then look at what you can do to nurture a loving, peaceful, accepting relationship with yourself. Look for this page in a few weeks.

There is another page in the works on Meditation Exercises. This is a vast and exciting subject! There is a lot to cover and it is coming through in chunks at a time. I don’t know what the time frame will be for it’s completion. The flow seems to have its own time line. :-) I’ll keep you posted in this ezine and on the Wellbeing Alignment Blog.
